Design Features
The design of the MGShV wire is characterized by the fact that it is produced with a cross-sectional area of 0.12 square meters. mm to 1.5. The cores are tinned, this protects them from oxidation and improves the quality of contact. The silk coating improves the insulating properties without impairing the mobility and flexibility of the wire.
The screen is also made of tinned copper conductors with a diameter of at least 0.15 mm. It serves as additional mechanical protection, but its main property is protection against electrical interference. The screen protects against signal distortion that occurs under the influence of electromagnetic interference.
The cores can be of different colors - this is necessary for convenience during installation and maintenance of the radio-electronic device. Example of MGShV insulation colors and their letter designations:
- White or gray – B.
- Yellow, orange, purple – J.
- Pink, red – K.
- Blue or light blue – S.
- Green – Z.
- Brown – Kch.
- Black – Ch.

Decoding and structure of MGShV wires
First of all, let's look at the decoding of the name and structure of the wire. This will give us an understanding of the basic mechanical, and partly physical properties of the wire.
Explanation of the name MGSHV
In general, the decoding of the name of the wires has certain standards. But for people who don't often come across these acronyms, this can be challenging. Therefore, we will decipher each letter and number in the name.
Wire marking according to GOST
So:
- Our first letter is “M”. But according to standards, only “A” can be the very first letter. The absence of an “A” at the beginning of the abbreviation indicates that the wire is made of copper. If there is an “A”, then this means that the wire is made of aluminum. Copper has higher conductive properties than, say, aluminum, which is a positive point. But the price of such material is slightly higher.
The photo shows a wire block diagram
- The first letter “M” indicates that this wire is an installation wire. Unlike installation ones, it can be repeatedly reconnected and moved, which is a definite plus.
- Our second letter is “G”. It means that this wire is flexible. This means that its bending radius is quite small, and the wire itself is no lower than the fourth class of flexibility.
Wire flexibility class
- The third beech "Sh". She says that the wire has silk insulation. Now, of course, it is not natural material that is used, but polyester threads, but in terms of their properties they practically correspond to silk.
- The fourth letter is "B". It tells us that the main insulation is made of vinyl. It is more correct to call this material polyvinyl chloride or simply PVC.
- But that is not all. In some cases, the wire may still contain the marking “E”. He says that such a conductor has a screen. The screen is made of tinned copper conductors of small cross-section.
- After this, numbers are usually indicated in the abbreviation. The first of these indicates the number of cores in the wire. As the manufacturer's instructions say, MGShV wires are made with one-, two- and three-core wires.
Color range of MGShV wires
The last value is the wire cross-section. For a given brand of wire, this row is not so long. These can be wires with a cross-section of 0.12, 0.14, 0.2, 0.35, 0.5, 0.75, 1 and 1.5 mm2.
Wire structure
Now let's take a closer look at the structure of the wire. Although, after deciphering the name, everything is more or less clear with it.
However, some details are worth dwelling on in more detail:
| First of all, this is the current-carrying part itself. As we said above, this wire belongs to products of the 4th or 5th class of flexibility. This means that the wire is made of at least seven separate wires twisted together. And the smaller the diameter of each individual wire, the higher the flexibility of the entire wire. The minimum diameters of each individual wire are standardized by GOST R 53768-2010. |
Silk thread in MGShV wires | The next material in the product is silk. Its technical characteristics provide additional protection against abrasion and act as the main dielectric. The thickness of individual threads and the entire insulation as a whole is standardized by technical specifications, and may differ significantly from one manufacturer to another. |
| PVC insulation is applied over the silk. This material is quite flexible and reliable in use. The thickness of this layer depends on the cross-section of the wire, but is usually at least 0.7 mm. Although some manufacturers produce products with lower performance. |
| If the wire has a screen, it is made of copper wires. Their diameter is usually 0.15 mm. And to protect against corrosion, the screen wire is usually tinning as in the video. |

Service life - at least 15 years, 95% service life - 15,000 hours.
Performance characteristics
Thanks to polyester insulation and external PVC insulation, the MGShV wire is resistant to precipitation, ultraviolet radiation, and static dust. The insulation is resistant to mineral oils, gasoline, salt water, and salt fog. The wire does not mold and does not lose its characteristics under mechanical shocks, both single and multiple. The MGShV wire is resistant to linear acceleration, sinusoidal vibration and acoustic noise. Also, the insulation can withstand temperatures up to +150C, subject to short-term exposure. Operating temperature range – from -50С to +70С. That is, MGShV wire can be used in almost all regions of the country. The wire is operated at relative humidity up to 99% (at temperatures up to +35C). Designed for use in conditions of low and high atmospheric pressure (up to 3 atm.).
The MGShV wire does not spread fire when used alone.

The meaning of the abbreviation MGSHV
Decoding this abbreviation provides enough information to understand the technical features. The fact is that the characteristics mainly depend on the materials used in production.
So, MGSHV is:
- M means assembly, i.e., used for assembling or installing some electronic device;
- G indicates the degree of flexibility of the core;
- Ш is silk, the material from which the first insulating layer is made. Instead of silk, polyester fiber is now used. This layer serves as a dielectric and is a mechanical protector for thin wires;
- The letter B denotes the material of the second insulating layer – vinyl (polyvinyl chloride);
- E stands for shielded type. A shielded cable can have two or three conductors.
