KG cable: decoding, design, technical characteristics

Cable application area

This type of industrial multicore cable KGTP-HL is intended for use in industry, construction, transport and agriculture. Its area of application is temporary or permanent provision of power to various types of mobile industrial equipment, as well as intersection connections. The network parameters for using this cable must have a power rating of 0.6 kV/up to 400 Hz AC or 1 kV DC.

Decoding the KG marking

In this case, deciphering the abbreviation KG will tell little about the product itself. Indeed, “K” means cable, and “G” means the product belongs to the flexible class. Frankly speaking, there is not enough information. After all, all the wires of the power cable family, one way or another, bend. That is, they are flexible. One might assume that this brand belongs to the class of very flexible products, and this is true.

To finish with the decoding, we note that additional letters may be found in the markings. For example:

  • KG-T, where “T” indicates that this brand is created for use in climatic zones with hot and humid (that is, tropical) climates;
  • KG-HL – cable, for use in conditions where there are severe frosts;
  • KG-N - indicates that the insulating shell does not propagate combustion. In addition, it is also oil resistant.

An example of KG brand wire is shown in Figure 1.

LLC "GK "Sevkabel"

(former plant of the Siemens and Halske Trading House) began operating in 1879. The founder is the German industrialist Karl-Heinrich Siemens. Over the course of several years of its existence, the company has occupied a leading position. Thanks to its universal capabilities, the company produces a wide range of cables. The quality of production has already been appreciated by buyers in Russia and abroad. Optical and power products, self-supporting insulated wires, low-voltage power wires - these are the main areas of development of Sevkabel OJSC.

The stable infrastructure of business relations of a successful enterprise, constant improvement of technology, modern management and marketing are based on centuries-old traditions of quality, on the experience of previous generations of cable workers.

JSC Sibkabel

JSC Sibkabel

The plant's product range includes more than 60 brands of cables and wires (over 20,000 sizes). Main groups: power products up to 1 kV, control, telephone, power flexible cables, installation, winding, enameled wires, cables for submersible electric pumps. Consumers of cable and wire products produced by Sibkabel JSC are railway and oil companies, organizations in the mining, energy and construction industries.

JSC Elektrokabel "Kolchuginsky"

100% of the plant’s products are certified according to the mandatory or voluntary certification system in accordance with the requirements of the State Standard of Russia, 90% are certified for compliance with safety requirements in the GOST R system.

The total nomenclature of Kolchuginsky is more than 25,000 brand sizes of cable and wire products.

All Kolchuginsky products are certified under a mandatory or voluntary certification system in accordance with the requirements of the State Standard of Russia.

Many wires are certified in various national certification systems. Ship cables are approved by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the Russian River Register.

NYM brand cables are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the standards of the Union of German Electrical Engineers (DIN VDE), the plant has the appropriate license for their production.

Power cables with cross-linked polyethylene insulation for medium and high voltage are approved for installation by the largest power systems in Russia.

Kamsky Kabel LLC

Kamsky Kabel LLC

Kamsky Kabel is one of the largest cable plants in Europe. The company is one of the leaders in the cable industry. Since 1957, the plant has been meeting the country's needs for reliable and modern cable and wire products. The company produces cables and wires that are sent to the largest construction sites in the country.

The product range includes more than 55,000 brand sizes. Modern technological equipment and a powerful testing base ensure the production of high-quality and reliable products with various types of insulation.

Cable and wire products under the Kamkabel brand are in demand in the electric power industry, oil, coal mining, metallurgical industries, industrial and residential construction, Russian Railways facilities, aircraft and shipbuilding. Cables and wires from the Perm plant are known not only in Russia and the CIS countries, but in Europe and Asia.

LLC "Rybinskkabel"

LLC "Rybinskkabel"

Rybinsk Plant is a leading enterprise in the cable industry with the widest range of products. The plant was founded in 1949 to meet the needs of the automotive and tractor industry. Located in the center of the industrial zone, Rybinskkabel quickly turned into a universal enterprise for the production of high-quality products used in products for civil and defense purposes.

In conclusion, it should be noted that you need to buy the wire with a reserve. Of course, if there is a shortage of products, you can build them up, but the whole is always more reliable than something assembled from pieces.

Design features

The KG cable is intended for connecting mobile devices and mechanisms to an electrical power source. The main line is used for non-standard installation indoors, overland, in fresh water and by air.

The wire consists of stranded copper cores, the number of which varies from 1 to 5. If the number of conductors is more than two, then one of them has a smaller thickness. A ground loop is connected to the thin line. The diameter of the conductive cores varies from 1 to 240 square millimeters.

The conductive line is covered with rubber insulation type RTI-1 or RTI-2, made on the basis of natural or butadiene rubber. Between the metal and rubber there is a layer of polyethylene terephthalate shell.

Letter marking

The KG cable is manufactured according to the Russian standard TU-16. K73.05−93, which complies with European standards IEC 245−1. The name of the KG cable means “flexible cable”. The oil resistance and non-flammability of the rubber insulating layer is indicated by the letter “H” at the end of the marking.

Sometimes the name contains a hint as to what climatic conditions the wire is intended to operate in. Model KG-T (tropical) is used at temperatures ranging from minus 10 to plus 55 degrees ambient air. The KG-HL version (cold-resistant) remains operational at 60 degrees below zero. The KG-U cable is designed to operate in temperate climates, where temperatures range from plus 40 to minus 40 degrees Celsius.

The letter “C” in the name abbreviation indicates that the wire has a core of polyester compounds in a rubber sheath. The letter “P” means that the conductors are wrapped in polyethylene terephthalate film. On electrical diagrams drawn up decades ago, the old name for the cable is found - KRTP. Explanation means that the cable is rubber-sheathed, heavy and portable.

For example, KG 3*4+1*2 has three conductors with a diameter of four millimeters and one wire with a cross-section of two millimeters.

Technical specifications

When installing and repairing electrical units, professional electricians take into account the parameters of the wires used. Technical characteristics of the KG-HL cable:

  1. When operating in a direct current network, a voltage of 1 thousand volts is allowed, for alternating current with a frequency of no more than 400 Hz - 660 volts.
  2. The ambient air temperature with a humidity of 98% should not exceed +50 C or fall below -60 C.
  3. The permissible heating of working conductors is no more than +75 C, in overload mode +90 C. A short circuit in the network brings the temperature to +200 C.
  4. The resistance of the insulating winding is 50 MOhm.
  5. The bending radius of the cable is equal to 8 outer diameters of the wire.
  6. A core with a cross section of 1 mm can withstand a tensile load of 19.6 kg.
  7. Service life of at least 4 years.
