Main performance characteristics

In most cases, PMSMs are made with salient poles. Their performance is judged by the following performance characteristics:

  • cos φ – power factor, which is equal to the cosine of the phase shift of the alternating current relative to the voltage applied to it;
  • M – torque;
  • η – efficiency factor;
  • n – rotation frequency.

Taking into account the ability of electric motors to operate with leading cos φ when overexcited, they are manufactured for nominal operation at cos φ = 1 and leading cos φ = 0.8. The frequency of the rotating shaft is constant in all modes:

n = 60*f1/p,

where f1 is the frequency of the stator current;

p

number of pole pairs of the stator winding.

The torque is equal to:

M = M0 + M2,

where M0 is the idle torque and is a constant value;

M2 – useful torque changes in proportion to useful power and is equal to:

M2 = P2/
